There are tiny micro-moments that occur randomly—just a moment, unnoticed. Then it slowly blossoms, revealing itself to be rich in color, bold in its beauty, filling all our senses.

On Easter, I went to a service with a neighboring couple. The service filled me with much-needed peace and joy. Afterward, we had coffee and chatted about faith, life—all the post-Easter service stuff. I complained about waiting for my expiration date, realizing I have no legacy.

A week later, there was a bag on my doorknob with a note. Inside was a book, Theo of Golden by Allen Levi—magnificent on so many levels (more later). But it was the note accompanying the book that turned a micro-moment into a deep reflection on “Connection is at the heart of our humanity.”

My neighbor wrote, in part, “The truest legacy, I believe, is simply this: to be remembered as one who noticed, who cared, and who made the ordinary shine.” Theo of Golden exemplifies that to the nth degree.

From the book: “...when we are born, our first instinct—‘far deeper than intention’—is to find a face... to search for something, someone, with which to bond.” That’s where the idea that connection is at the heart of humanity begins. It’s the entire theme of the book.

But even more on point is this: a random neighbor listened to me, heard between the lines, and connected with me in a deeply human way—creating a blossoming of thought, insight, and refuge from life’s doubts.

If we listen with our hearts, micro-moments will speak to us in new and phenomenal ways.
