There is more than this book as to why this site exists or me for that matter. Right now suffice it to say this site is about the book. The entire reason for this site is Donna, A Photo Memoir of Love and Loss. I am considering longish post on why. For now allow me to share an update about the book which excites me.
The book is finished. The book relies on photos to drive the narrative therefore the layout has taken some time but every minute of that time is worth it once you see the layout. It is brilliant and carries the joy of reading. It has been edited and proof read many times. God knows I can’t do that. Finally, the cover art has been selected. You can see a sample above. Phil is working to finish it as you read.
A self-publishing plan is in place and will be finalized in the next week or so. We are hoping to have the e-book and print edition up by July 1 on the following sites.
CreateSpace will be used for print and serve the Amazon world
IngramSpark will be for print as well geared to the booksellers
KDP Amazon for e-book and Kindle readers
Draft2Digital for e-book to reach Apple, BN.com, Kobo, etc.
I want to thank Jane Friedman and Phillip Johnson. Who without their work, support, and insight I would not be self-publishing. I would have a Word Document buried on my hard drive.
Jane Friedman has 20 year experience in book and magazine publishing industry. As she describes herself “Helping authors and publishers make smarter business decisions” Well she helped and made me smarter. I have had two online sessions with her and hours reading her site. She is smart, knowledgable, clear, and supportive. I cannot speak more highly of her. If you are an author check her out. There is so much on her site to read and learn. And that for me speaks volumes, a place to learn and trust.
Phillip Johnson is the books designer who took on a very daunting task. Creating a book design for Donna not the book but the person. He saw in my manuscript something that a designer could dig into and create a piece of art. And he did.
Donna was a graphic designer, an art director, a creative director, and lover of fonts/type. Those are big shoes to fill. Phil did it and did it well. You’ll see when you see the book. Check Phil’s work out at Phillip Johnson.
